Hello to all you Girl Scout Great Escape book worms out there!
Julie Sibert and Ellen Fenton, fellow Great Escapers, will be leading an in-depth discussion focused on this year’s Great Escape Book Club selection, Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus.
Lessons in Chemistry" follows Elizabeth Zott, a brilliant but unconventional chemist, as she navigates the gender biases and societal expectations of the 1960s. Initially rejected from the scientific community, she becomes a TV cooking show host, using her platform to subtly inspire women to challenge the status quo and pursue their passions. The story explores themes of female empowerment, love, loss, and the power of education, while also offering a witty and insightful commentary on the era.
Julie and Ellen are excited to discuss this book with you at the Great Escape. They recommend that you read the book before arriving at camp in September; however, anyone is welcome to join in the discussion whether you've read the book yet or not. The discussion will be held Saturday afternoon during workshop session D.
Feel free to email us with any questions you may have.
